Vantastival 2015!

 The Magic Vanhalla

The Magic Vanhalla

Vantastival is the best-kept secret in the Irish festival scene - a totally unique, brazenly independent event and the only one of its kind in Ireland. 2015 will be the sixth year of the festival and it has been nominated for numerous awards (Irish Festival Awards and European Festival Awards nominations every year). It has twice been an Irish Festival Award winner and this year we are shortlisted for the IMRO Live Music Festival of the Year, voted for by musicians and on a shortlist with heavy hitters such as Electric Picnic, Body & Soul and Longitude.

Vantastival 2015 will take place from 1st - 3rd May at Bellurgan Park, Co. Louth, situated just off the M1 motorway exactly half way between Dublin and Belfast. Bellurgan Park is an estate of extraordinary natural beauty just north of Dundalk near Carlingford. Hundreds of colourful VW campervans on site create a spectacular backdrop to complement the unique eco-architecture of Vantastival’s magnificent organic stages set into the landscape of Bellurgan Park, in the idyllic surroundings of the Cooley Mountains.

The custom designed ‘Vanhalla’ stage was built from materials sourced on site and dug into the hillside. Walking into ‘Vanhalla’ is like stepping into an ancient Viking world, while The Grotto Stage forms a natural amphitheatre in the landscape and has been described as the best new festival stage in Ireland.

Vantastival attracts an eclectic mix of van nuts and music fans from both sides of the border.  Campervans of all sorts are welcome and can park on site, right next to the arena. (prices are per person and there’s no charge for bringing a campervan).  Tent campers are also welcome and about half our punters camp in tents. This is not exclusively a campervan event!

Vantastival is known and loved for its friendliness and the relaxed, non-commercial atmosphere. While there is a bar on site, the festival is primarily a ‘Bring Your Own Booze’ event, and the site is largely built and run by a dedicated volunteer crew.

Vantastival has always been a champion of the Irish music scene, with a chiefly homegrown line up that is consistently praised for its diversity. Original folk, rock, traditional, electro, bluegrass, rap and punk acts all get a fair showing. While there are always a few big names adding weight to the schedule of over 80 acts, a major part of the Vantastival ethos is to provide a platform for new Irish music, and it’s a great place to discover up-and-coming acts. Vantastival gave The Riptide Movement their first ever festival slot!

Other festival features include an open mic stage, a campervan cook-off, smaller satellite stages, a late night arena, an adventure area with archery, climbing wall etc., gourmet food stalls, festival traders, and cinema.
